AWANA

If you're not familiar with AWANA, you're probably wondering what this is all about.  AWANA is a kid's club. For 52 years, AWANA Clubs have met weekly around the world. From preschool to high school, children work through handbooks, participate in games and listen to lessons each club meeting.  It is more than your typical scout troop or little league team. AWANA gives kids what few other programs can.

MEMORIZATION SKILLS: Memorizing Bible verses is key to the program. Memory work requires discipline and effort.  Children who memorize Bible verses seem to have an easier time with memory work at school. The discipline of working through a handbook builds within a child the discipline to tackle other projects and see them through.

NO "I" IN TEAM: AWANA provides a sense of belonging for children. The uniforms they wear seems to make each child feel they are a part of a group. Each child is a member of a team that competes during club time. Because winning does not only depend on games, but also verses said during handbook time, all children, even those not skilled in athletics, contribute to the team. They learn to encourage others to earn points, and they work together as a team.

CONFIDENCE: Ask any kid who has finished a handbook to show you his or her award and you'll see a proud smile. Reaching goals and earning awards teach children they can achieve what they put their minds to do. For children who aren't the best at sports, this can be crucial to building self-esteem. When children are confident they can work hard to memorize Bible verses and will be more likely to take on challenging projects later in life.

SPIRITUAL COMPASS: AWANA trains children to use the Bible to develop morals and strong character. Kids are taught Biblical principles such as helping others, obeying authority and choosing friends wisely.  They learn about God and how much he has given them because of His Great Love. Therefore, as a child grows older and begins to encounter difficult moral dilemmas, he has a compass to guide him in making decisions.

FUN: Over one-million children attend AWANA worldwide each week. One of the chief reasons is because AWANA is fun. Your kids may come home wanting to decorate socks with buttons and paint for "silly sock night",  or they may laugh in the car on the way home thinking about a leader who got soaked from water balloons during game time. They will be eager to participate in the many game times and craft activities.

When your child asks to go back to AWANA, you don't have to hesitate. Sending your children to AWANA is good for them, and they have fun at the same time. Spread the good news and invite friends and family. We're anxious to share the fun and learning with all children.
